Zion Elementary School District 6 music ensembles have been
hard at work this holiday season. The Orchestra, Band, and Choir programs each
put in a great deal of time and effort in preparing for their first concerts of
the year. The ZD6 Orchestra program held their concert, titled “An Autumn
Adventure”, in conjunction with the Zion Central Middle School Choir, on
Thursday, November 21st. The Orchestra program is now in its third year of
existence, and is continuously growing!
The ZD6 Band Concert, titled “Sounds of the Season”, was
held on Tuesday, December 10th. At this concert, the Beginning Band,
Intermediate Band, and Zion Central Middle School Concert Band, all had the
opportunity to highlight their talents. Lastly, the ZD6 Choir Concert, also
titled “Sounds of the Season”, was held on Thursday, December 12th.
Repertoire selections for all three of these performances
were made to both reinforce curricular musical concepts, and to expose students
to music and composers from various cultural backgrounds. Students in these
ensembles show a great deal of dedication by either waking up for before-school
practices if they are part of the elementary program, or rehearsing daily
during school if they are part of the middle school program.
This year, Zion Elementary School District 6 received the
gift of music for the third year as a 2019 “Save the Music” recipient. This
partnership has helped to make these music programs and concerts possible.
Thanks to the VH1 Save the Music Foundation, in partnership with the CMA
Foundation, Zion Elementary School District 6 has had the opportunity to
continue to build their music programming and instrument accessibility.
Additionally, every student now has the opportunity to enroll in band or orchestra.
The VH1 Save the Music Foundation exists to help students, schools, and
communities reach their full potential through the power of making music.
